Abstract
ThingLink focuses on pioneering immersive remote training and maintenance solutions by developing AI based VR/AR/MR/XR/360 services tailored for supporting field operations in the water management sector. Initial pilot location will be Savonia WaterLab in Kuopio in which a first version of the complete solution will be developed and tested. After the initial piloting phase at Savonia WaterLab, the complete system will be showcased at an international water facility in Poland.

Piloting Immersive Training
ThingLink acts as a partner in the SPECTRAL project, responsible for the piloting of immersive remote training and maintenance applications as well as their possible integration into Nokia’s service platform (IMPACT and/or MXIE), which forms a common platform for offering services to water utility customers.
Remote Training & 5G Field Testing
The work involves developing and commercializing the ThingLink service suitable for immersive remote training and maintenance, with its functionality being verified through on-site field testing at a selected international site’s wastewater pump station. The piloting and demonstrations will utilize the 5G test network operating on the Savonia campus to which Nokia also provides technical support.
AI-based service that utilizes
VR / AR / MR / XR / 360 technologies for immersive
remote training and maintenance
The functionality of a service is developed and tested at the Savonia WaterLab in Kuopio, Finland.
The complete solution is then demonstrated at a selected case site’s wastewater pump station belonging to a foreign water utility customer (a Polish water utility).
Based on the Proof-of-Concept trial run, experimentally verified results are obtained on the enhancing effect of immersive remote training and maintenance on the operation of wastewater pumping stations, condition monitoring, and personnel training.
Efficiency Boost
When the service proves effective, it creates the possibility to enhance the operation of wastewater pumping stations with reasonable investment costs, reduce expenses, minimize human errors, and increase safety.
Unlocking Value
Thus, it provides concrete added value to its operators and opens up new business opportunities both nationally and for international markets.
Versatile Solutions
Moreover, the service is easily replicable for other industries, such as manufacturing, mining, healthcare, remote maintenance of machinery, and predictive maintenance.
